Three Rivers still top for recycling!12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 8th Jun 2007
LibDem run Three Rivers council is the top performing council in Hertfordshire, with 44.2% of household waste recycled or composted. Once again, the efforts of local residents have led to a great result for both the council and the environment. Three Rivers are always looking for new, cost-effective ways to be able to help residents to recycle more waste. However a survey carried out on a number of local roads earlier this year has shown that the recycling rate could be as high as 70% if residents used existing facilities fully. The survey found that there was still a lot of cardboard and food waste going into the residual (green) bin. All food waste, including meat bones, can go in the brown wheelie bin and can be wrapped in newspaper, or placed inside a brown envelope or a box such as a cereal pack before being placed in the bin. Cllr Sara Bedford said, "Once again, residents have shown their commitment to recycling. Let's see if we can push the rate even higher!".
