The absence of a Conservative candidate from this week's Leavesden by-election proves that Watford constituency is a two horse race, according to the local Liberal Democrats.

Despite finishing third in the constituency in the last General Election, the Conservative candidate continues to claim that they are in with a chance.

Local agent Sara Bedford said, "Either the Tories are so out of touch that they didn't notice the sad death of Cllr Betty O'Neill and the resulting by-election or they simply couldn't be bothered to stand. Either way, it shows that they have little interest in fighting for or representing local people. Watford truly is a two-horse race between the Liberal Democrats and Labour".
