11.42.00pm GMT Thu 27th Mar 2008

Thank you

LibDem councillor Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst was tonight elected as a a Parish Councillor representing Leavesden ward, with an astonishing 92% of the vote.

The result was:

Stephen Giles-Medhurst (LD) 865 (91.6%)

Colin Gray (Lab) 79 ( 8.4%)

The vacancy had been caused by the sad death of LibDem Betty O'Neill at Christmas. The by-election was called by the Labour Party.

Stephen said, "I am delighted that local people have put so much trust in me. I know that we have done Betty proud in holding her seat so convincingly".

Local agent Sara Bedford said, "When you think that Labour held a seat in Leavesden ward in the 1990's and now their vote is less than 10%, it shows just how badly they are now doing in the Watford constituency".
